Beverly Hills Taboo- Male Breasts or Gynecomastia
![]()
More than 50% of adolescent boys in Beverly Hills and up to 15% of adult males suffer from Gynecomastia or male breast growth. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgery, Gynecomastia surgery is the fifth most prevalent plastic surgery procedure among men including those in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles.
It is interesting to note that with the rise in obesity the incidence of Gynecomastia is also rising. The reason for this is that fat cells, especially in large numbers, covert the male hormone testosterone into female hormone estrogen, which stimulates breast growth.
While plastic surgeons often come across young men with complaints of enlarged male breasts, they rarely get questions from the senior citizens who have Gynecomastia. Contrary to the popular knowledge, the incidence of gynecomastia rises with age. This is because that the levels of the male hormone, testosterone, decline with aging; resulting in male breast development during the senior years. Unfortunately, seniors have traditionally been very reluctant to seek treatment because of the negative connotations associated with an older man getting cosmetic surgery.
The surgical treatment of Gynecomastia has evolved dramatically over the recent years. While men don’t want to take off their shirts if they have “breasts”, they don’t either want to reveal any tail-tail signs of having had “breast removal surgery”. Therefore, Dr. Younai has designed a mini-scar technique for the removal of male breast tissue. Instead of placing a half-circle incision at the edge of the areola, he is able to remove the breast tissue through a small pencil-width stab incision within the areola. Once this incision heals it is nearly impossible to know that the person has had any surgery.
I hope this article has brought the subject of Gynecomastia to light and it shall encourage young and old men to seek appropriate treatment.

I think I’d try a more natural way of getting rid of man boobs first however in light of what you said about surgery now being much improved and no real tell-tale scars afterwards I reckon if you can afford it then it is worth going through the temporary pain of surgey to get long term success.

Dear Allan,
Thanks for your comment about Gynecomastia. By definition, Gynecomastia is male breast tissue developement, which does not melt away with exercies. I treat many men with Gynecomastia in my prcatice who are just frustrated with not seeing any difference with diet and exericse. In these people the only answere is unfortunately, surgery.
